Yejun and Minjun
Do you know who Rosalind Franklin is? Many people know she is known as the scientist who discovered DNA and X - Ray. Today, we are going to introduce her, and talk about her discovery of DNA, with our new guest, Yejun!
Welcome to our podcast, The Stolen Credits. Hello, my name is Yejun, and as he said, we are going to talk about her and her discovery of DNA. For people who don’t know about what DNA is, I would tell them that DNA is a biological structure that includes all information in living things. DNA stands for deoxyribonucleic acid, and is a really important discovery from history.
Many people believe James Watson and Francis Crick discovered the DNA in 1953, but that is not true for all. Friedrich Miescher found DNA in the winter of 1868, but this couldn’t give him credits because this was an experiment on another topic, and public scientists didn’t agree. In 1952 may 6 chemist called Rosalind Franklin discovered DNA, but 9 months later a pair of scientists, James Watson” and “Francis Crick,” also discovered DNA.
Rosalind Elsie Franklin, an English chemist and X-ray crystallographer, is a chemist who tried to understand DNA, RNA, viruses, coal and graphite. She did a hard work on the discovery of DNA but she couldn’t get credit because unfair discrimination of gender equality.
Other scientists all already noticed Rosalind Franklin found DNA first but due to discrimination of sexism she couldn’t win a novel prize or even can’t be a discoverer of DNA.We should know about this because in 1800s to 1900s gender discrimination was common.
Thanks for visiting our podcast, and that’s it for today. See you next time.
